Officers were called to the area at 9.45am on Wednesday 6th January after the discovery of his body in a lane behind Thomas Street, at the rear of Briton Ferry Workingmen’s Club.
A Home Office post mortem did not establish a cause of death and further tests are being carried out on the body.
Earlier today, officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at Swansea Central Police Station. A 44-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the death last week is currently on police bail while the investigation continues.
Detective Inspector Rob Cronick of the South Wales Police Specialist Crime Investigations Team said:
“Our investigation is continuing and we are still working to piece together the circumstances which led to the discovery of Kevin Mahoney’s body on Wednesday morning.
“The body was only partially clothed when it was discovered and the clothing Kevin Mahoney was wearing the evening before has not been located despite a number of searches. He was also not in possession of any personal belongings. His clothing consisted of jeans, white trainers, a beanie hat and a dark coloured jacket which he is seen wearing in the CCTV picture from a local shop.
“We are appealing to anyone who knows the whereabouts of this clothing or any of Kevin Mahoney’s personal possessions to come forward. This information could be crucial to the investigation team.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1600005773.
