A NEW online Swansea business directory has been launched to help keep money in the local economy.

The new directory, with details of almost 2,000 Swansea businesses, has been made available by Swansea Council at www.itslocalswansea.co.uk

Set up for today’s mobile generation, the directory is fully integrated with directions, Google Maps and Google Street View. It also links to the websites and social media accounts of the businesses included.

The new directory can be accessed from mobiles and tablets by sending a ‘123Swansea’ text message to 88802.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “This new service has been launched to support local businesses and increase local trade, but it’s also a useful tool for visitors who will be able to quickly find local amenities using their mobiles.

“The new directory has been designed as a resource to help companies and organisations that are looking to procure goods and services locally. We also hope it will help develop stronger local business links and encourage local spending between businesses, which will then support and boost the local economy as a direct result.”

Keith Baker, Chief Operating Officer at Pure Wafer and Chair of the Swansea Economic Regeneration Board, says the new business directory will help increase local trade by putting customers in touch with local suppliers. He’s also urging local companies to ensure their details are on the site and up to date.

“I’d encourage local businesses to submit their details at www.itslocalswansea.co.uk – it’s a free service,” Mr Baker said.

A new business guide has also been put together.

Mr Baker said: “The new business guide showcases what Swansea has to offer as a business location, its emergence as a city of innovation, its growing economy, its exciting regeneration plans, its distinctive culture and the city’s superb quality of life. It’s a very useful resource for both existing businesses and those thinking about investing in Swansea.”

The 2015/2016 Swansea Business Guide was produced at no cost to the council. It can be browsed online at www.swansea.gov.uk/businessguide
