“These job losses at Trostre, Llanwern and Port Talbot are a massive blow to the steel industry across South Wales. My thoughts are with those who will be learning that their jobs are at risk and the inevitable knock-on effects for the wider economy.

“We cannot afford to lose big, international companies from our economy as has been the case in the north of England.  The UK Westminster government must do more to take the concerns of the industry forward.  The same concerns that have largely fallen on deaf ears for the last 5 or more years over energy costs and increasingly cheap, lower grade imports from China.  George Osborne needs to concern himself less with selling out to the Chinese and start supporting our home industry more, an industry that employs so many hardworking Welsh men and women.”

“I will of course be raising my concerns with Welsh Government to seek ways to support this industry.”
