Finance and Government Business Minister Jane Hutt has welcomed the appointment of Dyfed Alsop as the new Implementation Director of the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA).
The WRA will be responsible for the collection and management of Welsh devolved taxes, Land Transaction Tax and Landfill Disposals Tax. The Tax Collection and Management (Wales) Bill, which will establish the WRA, is currently progressing through the National Assembly for Wales.
Dyfed, currently Chief Strategy Officer at the Valuation Office Agency, will join the Welsh Government in summer 2016 and will lead on preparations for the launch of the WRA in April 2018.
Welcoming the appointment, Jane Hutt said:
“This is a significant step forward in the establishment of the Welsh Revenue Authority and the implementation of Welsh devolved taxes.
“The new authority will have a crucial role in collecting and managing Welsh devolved taxes efficiently and effectively for the benefit of Welsh public services. Someone of Dyfed’s calibre brings valuable skills and experience to this vital position and I wish him all the best in the new role.”
On accepting the position Dyfed said:
“I am delighted both personally and professionally to be taking up this role. Establishing the Welsh Revenue Authority marks an exciting new chapter in the devolution of taxes to Wales and I am very proud to be leading this work. I am looking forward to working with colleagues to make the WRA a reality alongside meeting the many people and organisations which will have an interest in its work.”
