The colourful and musical parade, which is being supported by the Welsh Government via the Town Centre Partnership programme, will launch a week of events to celebrate all that’s Welsh in Wales’ oldest town.
St David’s Week runs from Saturday February 27 to Saturday March 6 and the activities include a St David’s Parade – Parêd Dewi Sant on the first Saturday, St David’s Day Celebrations, a Cawl Crawl, music and dancing, Welsh On Your Doorstep Market, Carmarthenshire Crafts, and Talwrn y Beirdd.
Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, who has organised the parade with Carmarthenshire County Council and Carmarthen Town Council, said: “The Parade is open to everyone to join in. This is the first time such a parade has been held in West Wales although there have been parades in Aberystwyth, Pwllheli, and Cardiff.
“The parade will leave from Parc y Dre at 11am on the first Saturday of the festival and will be led by Delme Thomas. Côr Meibion Caerfyrddin will be taking part along with the Carmarthen Wind Band, Crwbin Band and a piper, along with school, organisations, and representatives of the county council and town council.”
The parade will march through the town, past the Guildhall and Nott Square, along King Street, ending at St Peter’s Church. At the same time the Oriel Myrddin Gallery has events going on.
King Street will be closed for the day and events outside the Atom will include performances by Ysgol Berfformio Dyffryn Tywi and others. There will be free parking in the town for both Saturdays.
