Work to complete a footway between Llandre and Bow Street to make the route between the two villages safer for pedestrians has started this month.
Work to construct the new footway in Llandre, near Aberystwyth started on Tuesday 9 February 2016, following consultation with local residents and pupils at the nearby Rhydypennau Primary School.
The project is being delivered by Ceredigion County Council and is funded by the Welsh Government’s Safe Routes in Communities Grant. The fund provides an opportunity for local authorities to provide safer walking and cycling routes between communities, to schools and colleges, to access public transport and a range of local services and opportunities.
County Councilor Alun Williams, Cabinet Member for Transport, Waste and Carbon Management has welcomed the announcement by saying: “We are delighted to have received this funding from the Welsh Government to improve the footway link between the communities of Llandre and Bow Street. This will help make it a safer route for children to walk or to use their scooters on their journey to Rhydypennau School.”
Local County Councillor for Llandre, Ray Quant said: “This is an important safety improvement that will help to get children safely to their local school and is excellent news for the whole community.”
Local contractor K L Hughes & Sons, has been appointed to carry out the work on the footway and it is anticipated that construction will be completed within six to eight weeks and any potential disruption will be kept to a minimum.
