Scarlets flanker James Davies made a return to action for the region today after being sidelined since November with a foot injury.

The Man of the Match award was bittersweet consolation for the young flanker however as the Scarlets surrendered to a 24-23 defeat to Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield.

Davies crossed for one of three Scarlets first half tries with captain Hadleigh Parkes and winger Steff Evans also crossing the whitewash.

A 16-23 lead at half time certainly gave the Scarlets the upper hand but it was the home side who came out firing in the second half scoring eight points as Scarlets remained locked on 23.

Speaking after the game Davies expressed his delight at being back on the field but shared his team’s disappointed in defeat; “It is hugely disappointing. We got ourselves in a good position in the first half but probably threw it away in the second.

“We were a little bit slow getting up and running in the first 20 of the second half and full credit to Edinburgh they came back at us.

“I was happy to get through the full 80 minutes after being out for 12 weeks. I always try my best and anything I do out there I do for the team. We’re all disappointed with the loss today.”

Scarlets return to Parc y Scarlets on Friday night as they take on Benetton Treviso, kick off 7.05pm.
