The National Botanic Garden’s very first marketing chief is returning to his roots to take temporary charge of the Carmarthenshire tourist attraction.

Gary Davies, a native of Carmarthenshire and a first-language Welsh speaker, is back at the Botanic Garden from Tuesday March 1st as Interim Director,  15 years after leaving.

Since then, Gary has been chief executive officer of the South West Wales Tourism Partnership and Director at Oakwood Theme Park. He is currently Principal Director of the consultancy company Hurio.

Announcing Gary’s appointment, the Garden’s chairman of Trustees Rob Jolliffe said: “Gary knows the Garden well as he was the first Head of Marketing and Public Relations Manager at the Garden 1997-2001, when the annual figures of visitors exceeded 200,000; he is a fluent Welsh speaker and lives locally.”

Mr Jolliffe added: “The appointment is on a consultancy basis and will continue until the new Director is in post.”

The previous director, Dr Rosie Plummer is stepping down from her role on Monday February 29th.
