Parents, pupils, and others in the school community who would like to give their views on the future of English-medium secondary provision in Haverfordwest now have the opportunity to put their comments forward.

The third consultation on the English-medium secondary school provision in the town has been launched today (Wednesday) online at Pembrokeshire County Council’s website at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/haveyoursay

It follows an extraordinary meeting of Council on February 25th, where members resolved to proceed to general consultation on the following proposals:

  • Discontinue Sir Thomas Picton School and Tasker Milward VC School
  • Establish a new 11-16 English medium school in Haverfordwest and to provide additional ALN provision for pupils with complex learning needs;
  • Provide post 16 provision for the above school in a new sixth form centre as part of a formal collaboration between the County Council and Pembrokeshire College with some accommodation co-located on the site of the 11-16 school;
  • Express a preference to implement a Hub and Spoke model when and where it is practicable to do so.

The County Council will be holding drop-in sessions on Tuesday, 15th and Wednesday 16th March at Pembrokeshire Archives in Prendergast, Haverfordwest.

People can drop in anytime between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, and representatives from the County Council and Pembrokeshire College will be available to answer questions about the consultation process and the proposals.

A public meeting is also planned; the date for this is yet to be confirmed.

The closing date for responses is Thursday 14th April 2016.

  • If you need a hard copy of the consultation form, please contact Pembrokeshire County Council on 01437 764551.
