Rewarding the young people of Ceredigion

More than 450 young people from across Ceredigion were rewarded during Ceredigion Youth Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, 25th February.

The Urdd and the Youth Service offers a wide range of experiences for young people in Ceredigion, and by taking advantage of these opportunities they may gain qualifications and awards. The ceremony was an opportunity to reward young people for their work with the Urdd and the Youth Service over the past year.

Various awards were presented, including the Millennium Volunteers certificates, Agored Cymru certificates in Community Volunteering and Participation and certificates for completing courses  which included a ‘Bushcraft’ Course, an European Awareness Course, and a Digital Photography Course.

The evening’s Guest Speaker was Yvonne Evans, a presenter on S4C. Yvonne said: “The volunteering work that is being done in our communities is extremely important. I had so many opportunities when I was young as a result of local volunteers such as being a member of a local running clubs”.

Ceredigion Youth Council and Youth Forum chairs were the compares responsible for leading the night. Elliw Dafydd, one of the presenters, said: “It was great to be part of the awards ceremony. It was a lovely evening and I feel that it’s very important that the young people who contribute to so many different things throughout the county gain credit for doing so”.

As well as being an opportunity to celebrate the success of young people, it was also a celebration of the partnership working/collaboration between the various organisations who work with young people in Ceredigion.

According to Eifion Evans, Deputy Chief Executive of Ceredigion County Council: “”We are extremely proud in the Council that more than 450 young people have been awarded/gained accreditation through the Urdd and the Youth Service over the past year”.

Concluding the evening, Anwen Eleri, Ceredigion Urdd Development Officer, said: “It has been a pleasure working with the Youth Service to organize this evening, and we hope our partnership will continue to thrive for years to come”.
