Assembly Member Simon Thomas joined health campaigner Myles Bamford- Lewis in a meeting about the future of Withybush Hospital with bosses from Hywel Dda University Health Board in Carmarthen.
Plaid Cymru’s Simon Thomas attended the meeting with the Chief Executive of Hywel Dda Health Board Steve Moore to support Myles Bamford-Lewis from Dinas.
Myles said: “It was a positive meeting where a range of health topics were discussed including my petition and the return of 24 hour Paediatrics to Withybush Hospital. There was a good focus on boosting A&E provisions and working with the ambulance service to improve response times in Pembrokeshire. In all a good meeting.”
Mid and West AM Simon Thomas commented: “Plaid Cymru will restore paediatrics and maternity services at Withybush Hospital. While Hywel Dda Health Board has become more open than under the previous Chief Executive there is a still a lot of work for them to do to persuade the public it is serious.
“I raised the future of A&E at Withybush and the Chief Executive told me the Health Board are committed to continuing it 24/7 undifferentiated. I told him this meant paediatrics must be restored at Withybush – he said they were considering all options and wanted Myles’ family experience to be shared with the consultants.
“It is important Hywel Dda listens to Myles; his family and others following the removal of services. Going forward I will be campaigning for the restoration of services to Withybush – paediatric and maternity provision.”
