Hayscastle’s Hedgerows Cleaned for The Queen

The roads and lanes around Hayscastle have been given a spring clean thanks to a group of litter pickers from the village.

A dozen members of the community’s Environmental Group got together with the help of Pembrokeshire County Council to clear the Hedgerows of litter as part of a series of Clean for The Queen events that mark Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

Over 16 especially designed purple bags were filled full of detritus ranging from discarded beer bottles, soft drinks cans and even a shower head and fittings.

Pembrokeshire County Council arranged for the waste to be collected from a pre-determined point as well as donating litter pickers to the group.

Leader of the group Dave Baster said they were glad to come together for such a worthwhile cause.

“We usually get together twice a year to pick litter from the lanes around here but we thought we’d do an additional one as part of this nationwide event.

“We split up into three groups and covered a sizeable area to make sure our lanes and roads are litter free and we collected all manner of things.”

Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services Councillor Huw George said the group should be proud of their efforts.

“We were pleased to help Hayscastle Environmental Group with their Clean for The Queen event by collecting the bags full of litter and they can be satisfied with the effort they have made.

“Working together they covered a considerable distance and have made a positive impact to the area and I’m sure that motorists and other users of the roads and lanes around Hayscastle will notice the difference they have made.”
