Staff at Carmarthenshire County Council are being encouraged to support WWF’s Earth Hour 2016 campaign – the global celebration of our brilliant planet.
Between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday, March 19, millions of people across the world will turn of their lights as part of WWF’s Earth Hour.
Carmarthenshire council is delighted to be supporting this year’s campaign. The local authority is committed to taking local action to tackle global climate change and is delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate that by taking part in Earth Hour.
Climate change will have a massive effect on our planet – including all the people, wildlife, and habitats that it supports.
Taking part in Earth Hour is a symbolic gesture that says that we care about the future of our planet.
You can sign up to Earth Hour as an individual by visiting www.wwf.org.uk/earthhour where you can also add yourself to the Earth Hour map and get ideas about things that you can do to celebrate on the night.
Executive board member for sustainability Cllr Pam Palmer said: “Carmarthenshire County Council is supporting Earth Hour again this year, building on our backing for the campaign over recent years.
“We are arranging for all unnecessary lights to be turned off in council buildings between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday (March 19).
“The county council is committed as an organisation to reducing our environmental footprint. We are achieving this through reducing our energy consumption, increasing our recycling rates, investing in renewable energy and deploying electric vehicles.”
