Ecumenical seminar ‘Something Different: Faith and Service in Community’

Dyfed Powys Police in partnership with the Force Chaplaincy Team held an Ecumenical Seminar at Police Headquarters on Thursday 3rd March 2016.

Our Police Chaplains, who are all volunteers, have become a daily part of police life in the last few years, offering support to officers and staff, who come face to face with some of the most traumatic experiences and supporting the extended police family during times of injury, illness and bereavement. They are an understanding and listening ear and an outlet for the thoughts and emotions of officers and staff.

The purpose of the seminar was to extend the engagement that Dyfed Powys Police has with the faith communities in the force area; to better understand and deal with the issues that affect them the most. Through effective engagement officers and staff will be better placed to identify concerns relating to crimes, anti-social behaviour and other issues and thereby working with the communities to solve the problems that matter to them.

Assistant Chief Constable Simon Powell said, “We want to explore and develop working partnerships with the faith groups, to support each other and tackle the issues that are impacting on our communities.  Through our Force Chaplaincy Team we held this seminar to kick start those discussions by highlighting the good work that has been done to date, to seek new avenues to work in partnership to tackle issues affecting our communities, and to make a real difference to the quality of life of our communities.”
