Two primary schools from Pembrokeshire have narrowly missed out on a chance to play football at Wembley.
Talented footballers from Hook and Narberth schools finished second and third in their respective groups in a competition run amongst Premier League Football Clubs.
Had either won, they would have represented Swansea in the finals played at Wembley.
Both schools represented Pembrokeshire in the regional final after they beat off the best from 30 schools in a competition organised between Sport Pembrokeshire (Pembrokeshire County Council’s Sports Development department) and Swansea City Football Community Trust.
Over 350 boys & girls from 30 primary schools across the County took part in the tournament that was held in Haverfordwest. Students from Pembrokeshire College football academy helped by refereeing and officiating matches.
Sport Pembrokeshire have also partnered with the Fair Trade In Football Campaign, kicking off with a series of tournaments using Fairtrade Bala Sport Fairtrade stitched footballs.
The winning teams for these tournaments received a Fair Trade in Football Campaign Fairtrade stitched football for their school, with winners and runners-up in every tournament presented with a Fairtrade Granola breakfast bar.
Councillor Elwyn Morse, the Cabinet member for Culture, Sport and Leisure offered his congratulations to Narberth and Hook saying:
“The players that represented Hook and Narberth can be proud of what they have achieved.
“To beat off the stiff competition in the Pembrokeshire tournament was a great achievement and they took that confidence forward when they played other schools from other areas of South Wales and proved what a talented group of footballers they are.”
