Mini bikers from across Carmarthenshire wheeled their way into a Welsh record attempt at Pembrey Country Park.
Some 40 tots, toddlers and young children, the youngest being 12 months, took part in the Little Bikers Challenge to try and gain a Welsh record for the number of children riding balance and toddler bikes at any one time.
The children braved the cold and completed a 100m course to gain a Carmarthenshire record and possibly a Welsh record. Every child received a medal for getting to the finishing line.
The event was organised by the council’s sport and leisure team after teaming up with the organiser of the UK’s only cycle beach race, Battle on the Beach, which took place on the same day, attracting over 700 entries.
The council’s sport and leisure officer, Matt Adams said: “We were really pleased with the response to the Little Bikers Challenge. It was fantastic to see so many younger children get the chance to ride a section of the official Battle on the Beach course and it was inspiring to see children as young as one, two and three having a great time riding up and down the course with huge smiles on their faces.”
The sports and leisure team are now looking into a possible world record attempt next year.
Parent of Annie Evans, Darryl said: “What a great event, Annie was absolutely thrilled to have a medal, it made her feel special. She really enjoyed and we will definitely come back again next year if it returns.”
Toddlebike and Balancability sessions are being delivered across the county in our facilities. For further information call 01554 744347.
