The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, officially congratulated the Welsh football team on their magnificent, historic achievement in reaching the first major finals since 1958.

During a visit to their training base in the Vale of Glamorgan, the First Minister highlighted the fitting ‘Together Stronger’ mantra which has embodied the recent campaign.

Carwyn Jones said:

“It’s been a pleasure to be here today to congratulate the players, face to face, on making history and qualifying for the Euro 2016 finals after such a breath-taking qualification campaign.

“There’s a real positivity and excitement across Wales about what has been achieved and the buzz is evident amongst the players too, even during this Tuesday morning training session.

“The eyes of the world will be on France in June and it makes me, and I know millions of others, immensely proud to know that the red of Wales will be there in force. Congratulations and good luck.”

Wales National Team Manager Chris Coleman said:

“We, as a squad, were delighted to receive this official recognition from the First Minister on behalf of the country.

“We are all focused on the Euros in France this summer. We are not making any promises but we are determined to do well. We know that the whole country is and will be behind us. We hope to give everyone a tournament to be proud of.”
