Swansea businesses are being encouraged to sign up to a new online directory that’s aimed at helping keep money in the local economy.

The directory, which was launched late last year, already has details of more than 2,000 Swansea businesses.

Now Swansea Council is urging others to add their details to further support local business and boost local trade.

Phil Holmes, Head of Economic Regeneration and Planning, said: “The new online directory will, we hope, help develop stronger local business links and encourage local spending between Swansea businesses, which will then support and boost the local economy as a direct result.

“The online directory also helps companies and organisations that are looking to procure goods and services locally, while giving visitors to the city a useful resource to quickly find local amenities using their smartphones when they’re on the move.

“The directory has been very popular among businesses to have signed up so far, so I’d encourage others to follow suit and reap the rewards.”

Businesses can visit www.itslocalswansea.co.uk to either sign up to the directory for free or update their details.

Set up for today’s mobile generation, the directory is fully integrated with directions, Google Maps and Google Street View. It also links to the websites and social media accounts of the businesses included.

The new directory can be accessed from mobiles and tablets by sending a ‘123Swansea’ text message to 88802.

A new business guide has also been put together.

Keith Baker, Chair of the Swansea Economic Regeneration Partnership, said: “The new business guide showcases what Swansea has to offer as a business location, its emergence as a city of innovation, its growing economy, its exciting regeneration plans, its distinctive culture and the city’s superb quality of life. It’s a very useful resource for both existing businesses and those thinking about investing in Swansea.”

The Swansea Business Guide was produced at no cost to the council. It can be browsed online at www.swansea.gov.uk/businessguide
