SPECIAL booklets promoting the upcoming elections will be distributed to households across Carmarthenshire over the coming weeks.

The booklets will inform residents about the Welsh Assembly election and Police and Crime Commissioner election, both of which take place on Thursday, May 5, 2016.

You will be able to find out key information about voting, how to register to vote, why it’s important to vote and how your vote can affect your future.

How you vote in the Welsh Assembly election affects your life including having your say on things such as agriculture, forestry, animals, plants and rural development, food, highways and transport, health services, fire and rescue services and the promotion of fire safety, culture, economic development and the environment.

It also affects decisions regarding local government, public services, social welfare, the National Assembly for Wales, sport and recreation, tourism, town and country planning, water and flood defences, education and training, housing and the Welsh Language.

Voting in the Police and Crime Commissioner elections also gives you a say how you would like crime to be tackled in your local area, how the police budget is best spent and it means you have a voice on how local crime is policed.

As well as the booklets, a series of road shows will also be held across the county including Carmarthen outdoor market on Wednesday, April 6, Llanelli town centre on Thursday, April 7 and Ammanford outdoor market on Friday, April 8, between 11am-2pm, where shoppers can pop by and ask general questions about the voting process or find out if they are already registered.

Residents are advised to be able to vote in these and all future elections, you must be registered to vote by midnight on April 18. If not, you will lose your vote.

To check if you’re already registered to vote you can complete a simple online e-form featured on http://www.carmarthenshire.gov.wales/home/residents and confirmation will be provided within 48 hours.
