Renewed warning about drawing pins on cycle paths

Drawing pins being deliberately left on Swansea promenade are still catching cyclists unaware.

A number of cyclists have reported punctures because of the drawing pins in recent days, sparking Swansea Council to renew its plea to catch whoever is responsible.

Stretches of the prom where drawings pins have been left include spots close to West Cross, Mumbles and the Civic Centre.

Drawing pins have been left on the Clyne Valley cycle path as well, also leading to a number of bike punctures.

Swansea Council is urging visitors to the prom and the Clyne Valley cycle path to be on the lookout.

A council spokesperson said: “We first became aware of this issue about a week or so ago, but drawing pins are still being left on the promenade despite our initial appeal. Recent reports also show drawing pins are being left on Clyne Valley cycle path, too.

“This really is an extremely irresponsible and dangerous thing to do because it puts the safety of cyclists and pedestrians of all ages at risk. Our staff have been urged to be vigilant and extra sweeps of the affected areas are still taking place, but we’d again ask the public to be our eyes and ears to make sure whoever is responsible is caught.

“We’d encourage anyone who may have information to either contact ourselves or the police as soon as possible.”
