Lizzie Jones continues to be an inspiration to all in how she dealt with the sad passing of her husband Danny Jones. Capped 12 times by Wales, Danny Jones played in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup however sadly passed away aged just 29 years in a May 2015 club game for his beloved Keighley Cougars due to a cardiac arrest. A result of a previously undiagnosed hereditary heart disease called cardiomyopathy. This was the same abnormality which caused Bolton footballer Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest on the pitch when playing Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.

Whilst caring for her two young twins Bobby and Phoebe, Lizzie successfully brought about rule changes to semi-professional Rugby League in 2015 ensuring clubs now provide echocardiograms to their players. Also in tribute to her husband and the thousands of people who since raised funds for relating charities and her twins Trust Fund, Lizzie Jones sang at the 2015 Challenge Cup Final and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. A truly inspirational woman,

All Wales players and staff played for free last year in the Wales v Keighley Cougars fundraising game and in memory of Danny Jones did not play the number 6 jersey in the 2015 European Championships. WRL kit partner Raging Bull also kindly donated a special Wales kit which was auctioned off after the Keighley game to raise further funds.

Wales’ head coach John Kear and all of the current senior squad will be in attendance at the forthcoming WRL Celebration Dinner. This superb dinner in an exclusive North Wales hotel will allow people to dine with the stars and help celebrate Wales being crowned European Champions, all that is good about Rugby League in Wales and see new inductees into the WRL Hall of Fame, news of which will be announced soon.

Funds will be raised on the evening for WRL community work and the RFL Benevolent who kindly supported the families of Welsh internationals Danny Jones and Matty Barron in 2015.
