Wales Rugby League are to launch their first ever official Hall of Fame and will be inducting their first players at the WRL Celebration Dinner taking place on Monday 25th April at the Village Hotel Chester St David’s in North Wales.

WRL Chairman Brian Juliff enthused: “I am very pleased that we are at long last in a position to recognise the talents and celebrate the successes of our great heritage. The quality of Welsh players in rugby league is remarkable and it is only fitting we help celebrate their story and reward their efforts.

“Over 500 players have represented the senior men’s team and some of these are some of the sport’s biggest stars. Welshmen already appear in most professional clubs hall of fames, nine have already been inducted in the Welsh Hall of Fame which covers all sports and four are in the RFL Hall of Fame; of which two were immortalised forever in a bronze statue outside Wembley last year. We have 99 dual code internationals plus many more splendid people who have provided great service to the sport and their clubs over the years.

“The Wales Rugby League Hall of Fame will pay fitting tribute to them all over time and with such a wonderful array of talent it makes it a wonderful discussion point as to what order they should be inducted. We look forward to announcing the first inductees in the lead up to forthcoming WRL Celebration Dinner. Cymru Am Byth.”

WRL Chief Executive Officer Chris Thair said: “Establishing the Hall of Fame is another important stepping stone to improving the depth and quality of our organisation. Wales Rugby League is here to develop the sport in Wales and by continuing to embrace our heritage we will no doubt have a healthier future. The WRL Hall of Fame will strengthen our growing family. These wonderful people with amazing stories help us to bring in new people and commercial partners into WRL which is so vital to our ongoing success. It also helps us to retain more people in the sport in Wales as they slowly find out more about this astonishing past.”
