A litter epidemic in Llanelli needs to be tackled

Widespread littering throughout the town can no longer be ignored, Welsh Labour’s candidate for Llanelli has said.

“As I’ve been knocking doors across the town the amount of litter on the streets has been a constant complaint. And it is clear from walking the streets of Llanelli that the town has a major problem” Lee Waters said.

After reporting the state of a filthy bus stop in New Street in Morfa, Lee borrowed some litter pickers and took matters into his own hands. Lee’s video of him picking up litter in Copperworks road has gone viral on Facebook with over 15,000 views.

“Llanelli seems to be neglected by Carmarthenshire County Council. The state they have let the streets get into is a disgrace. But let’s be clear, this is a problem for us all – people drop litter not Councils, and people need to take a responsibility for keeping our streets clean”

Over 100 people have left comments with their own thoughts on Llanelli’s litter problem: facebook.com/leeforllanelli/

“My post seems to have started a debate on the best way of tackling this problem. If I win the election I want to bring people together to agree a litter strategy. I can’t sort this by myself” Lee added.
