An Assembly candidate, Simon Thomas has raised the issue of a lack of broadband service in rural areas, particularly in Meidrim in Carmarthenshire with the Welsh Government.

Plaid Cymru candidate Simon Thomas highlighted his party’s policy to help businesses get access to improve the economy in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

A Plaid Cymru Welsh Government would ensure that all businesses can have superfast broadband by 2017.
Infrastructure investment in rural parts of Wales can be lacking and all too often there has been a failure to provide the vital communication tools that businesses rely on.

For mobile signal a Plaid Cymru government will examine the demand for a Welsh-based ‘Multi-Operator Mobile Virtual Network’ similar to Manx Telecom, offering access to all mobile networks in Wales on a roaming basis to overcome the ‘not-spot’ problem.

Plaid Cymru’s Simon Thomas said: “Our commitment to bring superfast broadband to all has particular relevance to Carmarthenshire and

Pembrokeshire as has our promise to make mobile phone companies work together to deliver proper services and if necessary establish our own national telecommunications company to achieve this.”

A Party of Wales Welsh Government would ensure no home will be left without a Superfast broadband connection by 2017 by funding a Catch-All Scheme. A new target will be set to deliver ultra-fast broadband to all Welsh homes by 2025.
