RESIDENTS across Carmarthenshire are being urged to roll up their sleeves and take part in our ‘Tidy Tuesdays’.
A series of weekly, organised events are being held in various locations across the county as part of the Pride in your Patch project – from litter-picks to planting workshops.
A joint initiative between the council’s recycling section and housing department, with support from Keep Wales Tidy, the aim is to improve the quality of the local environment through community action.
Individuals and organised groups are being encouraged to get involved and help spruce up their local area.
The first Tidy Tuesday event is a planting workshop taking place on May 17 in the Hafan Sheltered Scheme in Station Road, Llanelli, between 10am and 2pm; with further activities planned throughout the summer months all over the county.
People can also organise their own events with the help of Pride In Your Patch co-ordinator Brian Mogford.
Brian can offer expert advice, as well as equipment and assistance on various activities including litter-picking, fly-tipping removal, graffiti removal, painting, grass strimming and weed clearance and making your space more wildlife friendly.
Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “This is an excellent project which can make a huge difference to communities by cleaning up areas of public land.
“I hope as many people as possible get involved with the Tidy Tuesday events, if we are to improve our environment we need to work together.
“Unfortunately there is a minority of people who just don’t care and they drop litter and fly-tip and these people are fined by our enforcement officers. By working together we can really make a difference.”
