Scarlets’ Judgement Day victory over Newport Gwent Dragons at the Principality Stadium secured the West Wales region’s place in Europe for the 2016-17 campaign.
The Scarlets have been a part of the European top flight since its inception and the win on the weekend secured that the long-standing association will continue next season.
Despite a disappointing campaign this year Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac believes it’s important for the club to be a part of the world-renowned competition going and to strive to compete on the highest level.
Speaking earlier this week he said; “It’s an exciting time. I guess we’ve got the pressure of Europe off our backs.
“It is a decent amount of pressure because the club has a proud history of being in that competition. We didn’t want to leave it until the last week.
“It’s very important for the club (to be in the Champions Cup). There’s a lot of history and that history means a lot.
“The guys we’ve signed for next year are coming to the club because they want to achieve things and there’s an expectation from the club. We didn’t want to be the side that lets the history down.”
Scarlets will head out to Ireland this weekend looking for a victory over Munster hoping to secure a place in the top four.
