After a report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation found that stress and anxiety is costing the UK economy £36billion a year, Fortitude Plethora has offered advice to help professionals maintain a healthy mind-set

It’s an unfortunate fact that the pace of modern life is leading to higher levels of stress among working professionals and entrepreneurs. Financial concerns, unrealistic deadlines, the battle to keep up with developing technologies and trying to maintain a healthy work life balance has led to a dramatic rise in stress and anxiety and is reported to be costing the UK economy £36 billion a year.

With the month of April being worldwide Stress Awareness Month Fortitude Plethora believe it is an important opportunity to educate professionals on the causes of stress and how it can be managed day-to-day for a more positive and happy mind-set. The firm are adamant that Stress Awareness Month has the potential to remove the taboo of feeling overwhelmed in the workplace and offers a much needed platform for people to openly discuss issues and recognise they are not alone in how they are feeling. For entrepreneurs especially, who may feel as though they have no option but to go it alone and that asking for help is a weakness, Stress Awareness Month is incredibly important.

With a background in Psychology, Fortitude Plethora’s Managing Director Toni Stewart understands the impact stress can have on success and is keen to help professionals overcome their daily stressors and causes of anxiety. As such, the firm have offered the following advice on stress management.

Wake Up Earlier

Often, the root of feeling overwhelmed at work stems from a lack of time to complete tasks. Waking up earlier can help a professional to claw back a couple of precious hours and get a head start on their workload. As well as this, waking up earlier allows professionals to ease themselves into the day rather than rush, meaning they can set time aside to eat a healthy breakfast, reflect on the previous day and plan for the day ahead. This process will create a more positive and focused mind-set and allows them to regain control over their day.

Release Negative Energy

Finding a safe, tranquil place to release negative energy is a must for professionals looking to reduce their daily stress. This may mean escaping to the local park during their lunch break, or finding a quiet corner in the office to regroup. The important thing is for professionals to take some time every day to think, let go and move on.

Move

Exercise and other physical activities produce endorphins – chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers – which can help combat the physical symptoms of stress such as fatigue and headaches. Exercise can also help people feel accomplished and provide motivation, so doing a little exercise in the morning can lead to a more positive, mind-set for the day ahead.

After studying Psychology, Toni Stewart of Fortitude Plethora has focused on building a company culture that encourages positivity and wellness. As well as motivating her contractors through example and taking on a rewarding exercise regimen, Toni Stewart has also committed to organising exciting social events and incentives to help maintain positive morale and team spirit among the Fortitude Plethora workforce.
