Hot on the heals of Neil Hamilton’s controversial appointment to the Welsh Assembly as a UKIP AM, we can reveal that we were contacted earlier today by Keith Thatcher (Ex Secretary of UKIP Wales and UKIP Llanelli) announcing his resignation from the party.

A copy of his resignation letter is below.

Dear Sir/Madam

Due to the appointment of Neil Hamilton as leader of the UKIP AM’s in Welsh Assembly I feel that I, Keith Thatcher – Ex Secretary of UKIP Wales and UKIP Llanelli have no other choice but to immediately ask for you to cancel my membership as I am resigning from the party.

The appointment and election of Neil Hamilton to the Welsh Assembly is extremely disappointing to all those who have fought and worked hard for the party over the years in Wales. Neil Hamilton most certainly should have never been a candidate for UKIP in Wales and the success of UKIP in Wales has absolutely done nothing whatsoever to do with Neil Hamilton, he has merely turned up in order to get elected and take his seat in the Welsh Assembly off of the backs of the hard work that others have done.

Neil Hamilton’s election on the 5th May and then being announced as leader of the Welsh UKIP AM’s on May 10th really were very sad, sad days for UKIP in Wales, Neil Hamilton’s appointment will cost the party many, many votes across Wales, he is considered toxic to many voters and Neil Hamilton most certainly should not be the face of UKIP in Wales and at this moment in time I want nothing further to do with the party!

Regards,
Keith Thatcher (Ex Secretary of UKIP Wales and UKIP Llanelli).
