Pupils from two Carmarthenshire schools have visited a local Lamb Abattoir and Processing Plant to find out about the variety of jobs opportunities available.
Year 10 pupils from Ysgol Emlyn, Newcastle Emlyn, and QE High, Carmarthen, have spent a day at Dunbia in Llanybydder which employs up to 650 people.
Dunbia is known as a Lamb Abattoir and Processing Plant and the aim of the World of Work day organised by Carmarthenshire County Council business development officer Angharad Harding was to change young people’s perception and raise awareness of employment opportunities on site in Llanybydder.
The day focused on a site tour, procurement workshop (carcass grading), engineering workshop (plant) and technical workshop (traceability). It also included real life stories from a variety of current employees who shared their experiences of working with Dunbia.
Following the day the young people will submit their CV’s and provide key work experience with the aim of employability.
Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “This World of Work day provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to find out about the range of operations carried out at Dunbia and will be a useful addition to their CVs.”
