Members of Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi are getting ready for their prestigious annual concert.
It will be staged at the Gwenllian Centre in Kidwelly on July 9.
Guest artists will include –Y Trio Cymraeg, Annette Bryn Parry, Joy Cornock and Dawnswyr Talog.
Trio are from the heart of Snowdonia and feature the voices of Bedwyr Gwyn Parri (baritone), Emyr Wyn Gibson (tenor) and Steffan Lloyd Owen (bass-baritone).
Trio’s roots are deep in a culture of music and song, a culture where singing is the natural mode of enjoyment, and where singing in harmony is second nature.
Joy Cornock is known as both a singer and a harpist.
She is a native of Fishguard in Pembrokeshire.
Joy’s interest in music began at an early age. After receiving an entrance scholarship in 2004, she entered the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where she completed her B.Mus. (Hons) degree and graduated with First Class Honours.
During her time at College, Joy was awarded the Mabel Linwood Christopher Award, the Lyn Davies vocal studies prize and the Aneurin Davies Memorial Award.
Her debut performance at the Wales Millenium Centre was for the Wales YFC 60th Anniversary Gala Concert in November, 2005.
A performer with the Welsh National Youth Opera, Joy took numerous operatic roles at college – Rowan in Britten’s The Little Sweep, Oasis in Chabrier’s L’Étoile, Phyllis in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe and Irma in Charpentier’s Louise.
Other College Performances included: Villa Lobos ‘Bachianas Brasileiras No.5’ in Oystermouth Church; Madly Musical; as well as regularly taking part in masterclasses with James Gilchrist, Paul Esswood, Julie Kennard, Roger Nicholls and Colette McGahon.
From an early age Joy has competed in and won many County, Urdd and National Eisteddfodau both in solo, folk solo and duet classes. Her most prestigious award being that she won the Violet Mary Roberts Scholarship at the 2006 and 2007 National Eisteddfod for the best soprano aged 19-25 years, also achieving runner-up in the Blue Ribband Competition.
In 2002, 2005, 2010 and 2011 Joy won the ‘Cwpan Ardudwy’ at the Young Farmers National Eisteddfod for the best musical item.
Now a regular soloist in recitals and concerts around the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany and Ireland. Joy has performed alongside the Morriston Orpheus, Dunvant, Llanelli, Morriston RFC, Haverfordwest and Pembroke Male Voice Choirs, Latvia Radio Choir, Fishguard Choir as well as the Ammanford Choral Society.
