Police will be out in the centre of Carmarthen next week helping people to learn more about how to keep their garden sheds secure.
Community Safety Officers will be carrying out a crime prevention initiative called Sheducate where they will have a shed on demonstration from a local company with security screws inserted.
The event will be held alongside the clock tower by Carmarthen Market next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (May 23-25) 10am to 3.30pm.
There will be demonstrations of products that will keep sheds secure such as locks, alarms along with general security products and advice.
The police have had a shed donated for demonstration purposes from Sheds and Chalets in Llanelli and Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership has funded special security screws that will be used as part of the demonstration along with a vehicle number plate securing initiative.
PC Dave White of Carmarthenshire Neighbourhood Development Department said: “Shed crime locally and nationally increases in the spring and summer months our aim will be to educate the public not to leave ladders and tools outside their houses but to lock them away in their sheds.
“They should also make sure that the shed hinges cannot be taken off and that locks are strong in order to keep their valuables safe.”
Carmarthenshire County Council executive board member for Community Safety Cllr Pam Palmer said: “I would urge people to find out more about how to keep their property secure in their sheds. I’m pleased that the CSP has been able to support this timely initiative.”
