Another rising young Welsh Rugby League star could make his professional debut tomorrow when South Wales Scorpions take on Rochdale Hornets at Spotlands (kick-off 3pm).
19-year old prop Jake Thomas joined the club in 2012 and started to impress then when he played for the under 16s, including in a win over Super League academy London Broncos. He was just 16 when he first played for the clubâs under 20s in 2013, starring in a win over Gloucestershire All Golds, and has played at this level ever since.
He has also continued to be developed and nurtured by his community club, Torfaen Tigers, and has played for Wales at under 16, 18 and Dragonhearts level.
Thomas joins another potential debutant in 20-year old winger Lewis Hughes in the 19-man squad and Scorpions coach Phil Carleton is delighted to give them to opportunity.
âIâve been very impressed with both playersâ performances in our reserve side this year,â he said. âIâm delighted to give them this opportunity, theyâve both earned it. Both are good up and coming Welsh players and the reason we have a second team is to bring players like these through. Iâm sure youâll see both in action at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday 4th June as both our first team and reserves are playing that day.â
South Wales Scorpionsâ next home game is against North Wales Crusaders â the Big Welsh Derby â which is to be played at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday 4th June (kick-off 5pm).
The match is the culmination of a dayâs worth of events which sees the Scorpions reserve side take on Super League academy side Salford Red Devils at 2.30pm as well as Walesâ biggest community derby game when Valley Cougars take on Torfaen Tigers at 12.30pm.
Tickets and hospitality for this big event can be bought by going to www.scorpionsrl.com. Adult tickets are reduced to £8 until May 25th.
