Over the weekend we held the second test in this year’s Origin series, Wales Rugby League hold a tri series between West Wales and East Wales from under 14s all the way through to seniors. As it was the turn of West Wales to host the day there was no other place other than Stebonheath Park for the event to take place. The day began with East and West Wales facing each other at under 14 category, this turned out to be the only victory of the day as East Wales managed to be the victors under 15s, 16s and seniors. Even though the overall victories went to East Wales the scores between the two sides seem to be edging closer and closer each time both sides compete against each other. The whole day was also a fantastic opportunity for everyone to see the amazing talent we have on show in Wales.
Local rugby league celebrity Paul Prendiville was present during the whole day to view and decide upon ‘the man of the match award’ for each game, Paul Prendiville is a professional rugby league footballer of the 1970s and ’80s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and Wales, and at club level for Hull, Leeds, and York, as a Wing, who now resides in Llanelli.
Paul added “I was thrilled to receive the invitation to come and be a part of this fantastic day, it was great to see so many talented youngsters on show who all made my job on the day a lot tougher, as I have been involved within rugby league for so many years its fantastic to see it back in my home town of Llanelli, I was a part of the West Wales Sharks who played their home games from New Dock Stars over 8 years ago. It’s brilliant to see how much it has moved on within the town and I am really looking forward in supporting the Raiders this season and can’t wait for my first home game as a supporter this Saturday.”
After the long weekend it was back to work with a shorter week, through working with Communities First and having a strong partnership with them, we are looking to help out as much as possible this Friday with them and be a part of a family fun day, on the day we will have a rugby league workshop in which everyone and anyone can come and take part and have a chat to find out more about what we are doing at the West Wales Raiders Rugby League.
This Saturday we welcome Coventry Bears to Stebonheath Park, in the away leg of this fixture we lost 43-42 with a drop goal from Coventry deciding the match, to add a little more spice to the fixture Coventry were the only team to beat the West Wales Raiders at home last season, so why not come on down to watch and support with Paul Prendiville this week.
