The Labour Case for Remain: Staying in Europe, will be a unique event held in Carmarthen Town AFC’s community hall on Friday 10th June, starting at 7.30pm. Free tickets are currently available online via the local Labour Party’s facebook and twitter pages.
Speaking at the event will be newly elected Mid and West Wales regional Assembly Member, Eluned Morgan and former Secretary of State for Wales, Peter Hain. The event will be Chaired by Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, Nia Griffith MP.
Eluned Morgan AM said:
“The EU referendum on June 23rd is one of the most important decisions facing the people of this country. I am a former Member of the European Parliament, I know that the EU isn’t perfect but removing ourselves from the Union is not the way to effect change.
“West Wales has so much to lose if the UK votes out later this month, the effect on our trade links, in particular our agricultural sector will be significant. Because we have been part of the EU, we can see the benefits. We can see investment in the arts, support for local tourist attractions and the strengthening of our cultural links with our neighbours in Ireland, all of which have brought jobs to our economy and have strengthened our economy. The Leave campaign has no positive messages and no real plan for making up the shortfall in that investment for West Wales.
“So I want a proper discussion of the positives about being part of the EU, the opportunities for the future, to expose the myths about immigration and to discuss the benefits the EU has to offer to our communities and our young people.”
