First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones has wished the Welsh team good luck ahead of their first game in the Euro 2016 tournament in Bordeaux this evening.
Speaking ahead of the game between Wales and Slovakia, Carwyn Jones said:
“Today’s football match marks a momentous day in Welsh sporting history. After 58 years and so many near misses, we are finally back at a major football tournament.
“I’m delighted that our national football team finally have a chance to showcase their talents, and Wales, on this international stage.
“Wales has produced some world class players – Gareth Bale, Ryan Giggs, Ian Rush and John Charles are household names but, of course, they only tell part of the story – part of the history. The team Chris Coleman has put together has truly embraced the Together Stronger mantra that has embodied the campaign and given the nation a huge boost. It’s been fantastic to witness first hand how this has translated into success on the pitch.
“Wales will be represented in a tournament watched by billions of football fans across the world this summer. It’s incredible, unprecedented and completely deserved.
“Pob lwc boys, we’re with you all the way.”
