Scarlets are delighted to announce that their second pre-season friendly this August will be played at North Wales’ home of rugby, Parc Eirias.

Following on from the success of last summer’s three-day community roadshow, that saw the Scarlets community team run 26 training sessions for over 300 children at four clubs across North Wales, the West Wales region will once again head North with the roadshow’s activities culminating in a pre-season friendly this summer!

Scarlets will welcome Bath Rugby to Parc Eirias on Saturday 20th August, the region’s first game in North Wales since securing victory over Connacht at Wrexham’s Racecourse back in September 2005.

Scarlets’ three-day tour to North Wales will include an open training session at Parc Eirias on Friday 19th August giving supporters young and old an opportunity to meet the region’s players, including the international players currently on duty in New Zealand.

Parc Eirias has proved to be a popular addition to rugby in North Wales becoming the proud home of Wales Under 20s, securing sell-out crowds in recent seasons, as well as hosting a number of international rugby fixtures.

Scarlets General Manager of Rugby Jon Daniels said; “It’s clear to see from the support shown to the national Under 20s side that there is a real appetite for rugby in North Wales, something we’re acutely aware of with a number of our loyal season ticket holders based in North Wales making the long journey to Parc y Scarlets on a regular basis. We have a long-standing tradition with the area having played a number of games at the Racecourse during the early days of regional rugby and we’re very much looking forward to returning this summer.

“Following on from the success of last season’s ‘home’ pre-season friendly at Llandovery RFC, against Bedford, we as a region were particularly keen to take regional rugby to the people and to our rugby communities once again.

“We received unprecedented support from Bethesda, Nant Conwy, Denbigh and Mold as we toured North Wales last summer and we are once again looking forward to hosting training sessions at a number of community clubs, as well as welcoming Bath for our second and final pre-season friendly.”

Cllr Graham Rees, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Marketing and Leisure added; “Scarlets’ pre-season friendly against Bath Rugby will be another great occasion for Eirias and should provide spectators with a feast of rugby. There’s no doubt that Bath will give a good account of themselves at Eirias, a first-class stadium that encourages open rugby, which I’m sure we’re all looking forward to.

“This will be Scarlets’ first game in North Wales in over a decade and we’re delighted to be hosting here at Eirias. Our thanks goes to former Scarlet Rupert Moon for his support in getting the fixture organised and there’s no doubt that old friendship’s will be reacquainted with the game testament once again to what superb facilities we have to offer here at Eirias in Colwyn Bay.”
