As we get ever closer to the day of the referendum, it is important to remember the positive case for remaining in the EU. It is also important to not be complacent in our effort for further reforms, Plaid Cymru has always fought for change within the EU and a vote to Remain is not a vote for the status quo.
âWe support a social Europe that can help us to create a more just and equal society and maintain peace.
We will challenge attempts to weaken employment rights and environmental and consumer protection, which have brought so much benefit to people in Wales. We want efforts to control climate change kept at the top of the agenda.
There are progressive voices in many parts of Europe calling for change and we will be working closely with them to achieve this.â Jill Evans MEP
âOver the past 70 years we have benefited from the longest period of peace between EU nations in 400 years. The Brexiteers claim that Nato, not the EU, has prevented war.
“While such a mutual defence treaty is a key military factor, even more important is the building of understanding and mutual trust between peoples and between nations that is facilitated by the European Union. That generates attitudes that make war unthinkable.
“Peace is not just the absence of armed conflict, it is something much more substantial: it is the forging of friendship and practical co-operation, finding ways to compromise and mutually acceptable ways forward.”Lord Dafydd Wigley
âWeâve got to be in it to change it.â
âPeople in Wales benefit from our membership of the European family – ÂŁ5 billion worth of trade is invaluable to Welsh businesses and more than 150,000 jobs are directly linked to our participation in the EU.â
âPlaid Cymru will continue to put concerns such (as) employee rights, climate changeâŚ.and job creation at the top of the European political agenda. We will take every opportunity to further the Welsh national interest.â Leanne Wood AM
