Pupils with good or improving attendance have been celebrated for their efforts at a city primary.
A special attendance assembly at Clwyd Community Primary School highlighted the outstanding efforts of 13 pupils to make sure they were in school and on time to learn.
The school’s Attendance Governor Douglas Thomas also presented a special shield and prize to Year 4 pupil Courtney Hyde who has had the largest improvement in attendance across the school hitting 98.7% to date.
The event aims to raise awareness among pupils about how important attendance is to making the most of education and having the best possible opportunities in life.
Headteacher Stephen Brown said: “Attendance is high on the agenda at Clwyd because it gives children the best opportunity to achieve their best in their school lives and beyond.
“13 pupils have been awarded certificates this term for consistent outstanding levels of attendance, improvement in school attendance and also for a good attitude to attendance by taking steps such as booking medical appointments after school rather than during school time in order to maintain outstanding attendance.
“We will continue to work with parents and Education Welfare Officers to keep improving attendance.”
Jen Raynor, Swansea Council Cabinet member for Education, said: “Well done to all the children who attend consistently all year but also those who are striving to do better at attending too.
“We are continuing to work with schools as part of our Incentivising Attendance Programme to celebrate and boost good attendance. It’s part of a range of measures by the Council to help pupils achieve their full potential.”
