Children from Stackpole VC School will be rolling up their sleeves to give pollinators a helping hand after successfully bidding for a £250 ‘Natural Buzz’ grant.

The School’s Eco Club will use the money to buy plants in order to attract pollinators as part of their action plan to provide more pollen and nectar to pollinating insects.

The aim of the Welsh Government funded ‘Natural Buzz’ campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, as well as to help communities create new habitats and food sources for pollinators by planting wild flower havens in unused spaces.

The campaign is run by environmental charity, Keep Wales Tidy who asked Schools across Wales to apply for the grant to help with their pollinator improvement schemes.

As part of their environmental project, Stackpole VC School’s Eco Club drew up an Eco Action Plan, with a focus on the School’s extensive garden area.

As well as growing plants to attract pollinators, there has been lots of activity in the School gardens recently, with a tasty crop of new potatoes and other home grown produce being sold at the recent Enterprise Fair.

Base Leader and Eco Club Coordinator, Mrs Sandra Bryant said, “We were thrilled when we found out that we’d been successful in applying for Garden Centre vouchers.

“Natural Buzz has enabled us to make a huge improvement to the pollen and nectar that’s on offer in the Stackpole area and hopefully this will benefit our local environment and wildlife, as well as the local community.”
