Communities and Childrenā€™s Secretary Carl Sargeant has called on social landlords, housing associations and local authorities to help tackle the causes of Anti-social Behaviour.

Addressing an All-Wales conference on the issue Carl Sargeant said that housing organisations are well-placed to help tackle the causes of Anti-social Behaviour as they are already delivering a wide and varied range of vital support.

The Communities Secretary said that early intervention, partnership working, and information sharing were key to finding solutions to the problem.

He added social landlords need to change their organisational culture so that they share and adopt best practice.

Carl Sargeant said:

“A positive approach can produce change. To ensure this happens, I am setting up a steering group which will take the findings of the recent pilot study on the use of risk assessments and ensure the limitations it identified are addressed by all social landlords.

“Amongst other things the group will look at whether we need to measure performance within the social housing sector on Anti-social Behaviour.”

The Communities Secretary added:

“I hope organisations will take a long hard look at what more they can do to ensure an effective victim-centred approach and a higher profile for Anti-social Behaviour.”
