Passenger numbers at Cardiff Airport have risen in the last year, partly as a result of Wales’ semi-final run in the European Championships this summer. That’s according to new statistics released today.
Figures for June 2016 reveal a year-on-year jump of 17%, reflecting Wales’ fantastic progress to the Semi-Finals of Euro 2016.
Meanwhile, the overall number of passengers flying from Cardiff Airport over the last 12 years was 1.3 million.
Shadow Economy Secretary, Russell George, said:
“It’s great news for Cardiff Airport that passenger numbers have risen significantly over the last year, and we need to see that progress sustaining itself in the years ahead.
“We know from independent analysis that the Welsh Government paid twice as much for the airport as they were advised to, and long term growth will enable taxpayers to reclaim some of that lost money.
“Wales’ success in the Euros has attracted thousands of new passengers to the airport and experts will look closely at its performance next year to see if that progress can be repeated.”
