Nine food and drink festivals across Wales have received funding from the Welsh Government to help support their events and strengthen Wales’ reputation of producing high quality food, in the first round of applications received before the end of May.
The funding will help showcase the best of Welsh food and drink to people living and visiting Wales by supporting the nine festivals taking place across Wales. Food festivals play an important role in the local economy attracting visitors and providing a showcase for producers.
The financial support of up to £5,000 per festival will help raise the profile of the high quality of food and drink on offer in Wales in order to build on Wales’ growing food culture.
Commenting on the funding support provided, Lesley Griffiths, the Welsh Government’s Environment and Rural Affairs Cabinet Secretary,
“Food festivals are a celebration of all that is good about Welsh food and drink. We recognise the important contribution food festivals can make to strengthen and develop a vibrant Welsh food culture. Food festivals also attract thousands of people into the hearts of our towns and villages, providing a welcome boost to local businesses and the rural economy.”
The food and drink festivals given Welsh Government funding are:
- Cowbridge Food & Drink Festival, Cowbridge (29/30 May 2016)
- Newcastle Emlyn Food Festival, Newcastle Emlyn (11 June 2016)
- Hay Summer Food Festival, Hay-on-Wye (1 July 2016)
- Cardigan Bay Seafood Festival, Aberaeron (3 July 2016)
- Cardigan River & Food Festival, Cardigan (6 August 2016)
- Narberth Food Festival, Narberth (23-25 September 2016)
- Llangollen Food Festival, Llangollen (15/16 October 2016)
- Hay Winter Food Festival, Hay-on-Wye (26 November 2016)
- Abergavenny Christmas Food & Drink Fair, Abergavenny (11 December 2016)
