Walesâ largest social science conference is taking place at the new Bay Campus at Swansea University today.

Now in its seventh year, the Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD) Annual Conference brings together practitioners, policy makers and social scientists to discuss and debate themes such as health; social care; wellbeing; education; culture & values; environment; labour markets; devolution; and civil society.

Established as an important event in the social science calendar, academic and non-academic researchers from a diverse range of disciplines will share their research at the conference. The event is a unique opportunity for anyone concerned with social, economic and political issues in contemporary Wales and beyond, with over 70 papers being presented this year.
Headlining the two-day conference are four keynote speakers: OttĂłn SolĂs, President and three times presidential candidate of the Citizensâ Action Party (Partido Accion Cindadana) in Costa Rica; Professor Andrew Oswald, Professor of Economics, University of Warwick; Mike Hout, Professor of Sociology, New York University; and David Grusky, Professor of Sociology, Stanford University.
Opening the event is former First Minister, The Right Honourable Rhodri Morgan, who will deliver a speech titled âThe Services/Manufacturing Balance and the Welsh Economic Recoveryâ.
The WISERD 2016 Annual Conference will take place on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th July at Swansea University.
