Former Celtic Crusaders favourite Jamie IâAnson is returning to South Wales after signing for South Wales Scorpions for the rest of the 2016 season.
The 29-year old prop made 44 appearances for the Crusaders between 2007 and 2008 and was also instrumental in helping the Crusaders Colts side win the summer National Conference in 2008.
IâAnson joined Crusaders after coming through Leeds Rhinos Academy and then Featherstone Rovers. A former England youth international, he returned north and signed for Oldham Roughyeds but later quit to concentrate on his other sport, Mixed Martial Arts! He returned to Rugby League three years ago with Leeds-based National Conference side Milford Marlins.
He will make his Scorpionsâ club debut this Wednesday in their reserve match against the Parachute Regimentâs Rugby League side at Caerphilly RFC (kick-off 7pm TBC) and should he perform well, heâll be considered for the first team game against North Wales Crusaders next Saturday at Chester RUFC.
Scorpionsâ head coach Phil Carleton said: âAll things going well in the reserve team game in Caerphilly this Wednesday, Jamie will feature against North Wales Crusaders next Saturday.
âHeâs a tough bloke, he left Rugby League to do MMA but heâs back now and heâs been playing a high level of the community game in the north, turning out for Milford Marlins.
âFitness will be his big test, but the impact he could bring us could be devastating. Iâm looking forward to seeing him in action again.â
Carleton says the squad could be strengthen further before transfer deadline day this Friday (22nd July).
âWe are contact with a few players before deadline day,â he added. âFingers crossed we could have a couple more signed but we donât want to say anything too soon.â
South Wales Scorpionsâ first team are next in action at home on Sunday 31st July when they take on Newcastle Thunder in the League 1 Shield. Kick-off at Caerphilly RFC is 3pm and tickets, priced ÂŁ8 for adults, ÂŁ5 concessions and ÂŁ1 juniors, can be bought by going to www.scorpionsrl.com.
