Visitors to Aberavon Seafront can now enjoy a round of mini golf following the opening of the new Adventure Golf Course.

Just in time for the start of the school summer holidays Pirate Cove will be open daily from 09.30 – 8.30pm. There is also a kiosk serving tea, coffee, ice cream, soft drinks and snacks.

It will be run by Port Talbot-based The Natural Play Company who designed and built the Course, adding at least two new members of staff to the team.

The course is designed to be fun with differing challenge levels.  Features include full sized wrecked pirate galleons, five foot high pirate face carvings, treasure chest obstacles, shark fin carvings, pirate statues and a shark entrance feature.

The development has been made possible by a successful bid by Neath Port Talbot Council to the Coastal Communities Fund, which is funded by the Government with income from the Crown Estate’s marine assets.  It is delivered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of the UK Government and the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The adventure golf course is the latest in a series of improvements to the beachfront and follows the redesign of the sunken gardens, new children and toddlers play area, skateboard ramps, improved signage and shelter facilities and the £13m Aberavon Leisure and Fitness Centre.

These amenities have in turn seen new private investment in the area with the redevelopment and expansion of a number of food outlets serving visitors to the seafront.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council Cllr Ali Thomas OBE said: “This is a great addition to Aberavon’s seafront. The adventure golf course complements the other improvement works which we have undertaken in recent years and provides people with another great reason to enjoy their visit.”

“Our regeneration strategy for the seafront is attracting additional investment from local businesses and ensuring that the area is fast becoming a popular year-round destination for residents and visitors alike.”

Mike Newman of The Natural Play Company said: “We are delighted with the end result of Pirate Cove Adventure golf course. The nautical themed course offers a memorable experience with exciting features for people of all ages to enjoy.

“Being a Port Talbot-based company, it was always our goal to provide the local and wider community with a quality, fun filled family attraction to complement the ongoing development of Aberavon Seafront.

“We will be offering group booking discounts, hosting birthday parties, and special themed events and are hopeful that the new facility will provide enjoyment for visitors and locals for many years to come.”
