Refurbishment work at Pembrey Country Park’s beach kiosk and Ski Centre café has begun in time for the school summer holidays.

Ice cream and lollipops are available at the kiosk, which is located near the main entrance on to Cefn Sidan Beach.

The Ski Centre café will continue to service sandwiches, crisps, confectionary and snacks plus hot and cold drinks, with a food preparation and servery area being created as part of the refurbishment.

Mobile catering will also be brought into the park, serving hot snacks such as burgers, hot dogs and chips near the former café in the centre of the park.

Carmarthenshire County Council, which owns and operates the park, is also making plans to re-establish a restaurant on or near the former café location, with enhanced facilities for park visitors and campers for next year’s summer season.

A raft of improvements, including a new automated entrance system, and enhanced shower and toilet facilities for campers, will be included in a ‘masterplan’ that will be discussed by the council’s Executive Board on July 26.

Cllr Meryl Gravell, Executive Board Member for regeneration and leisure, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer hot food and cold snacks to park visitors and guests for this year’s peak summer season.

“Whilst providing a temporary solution for hot food with mobile catering units, we are working on plans for a new restaurant and a range of other facilities that will improve the offer for our visitors from next summer.

“We would like to thank visitors for their patience over the last few weeks whilst we have worked to find solutions for catering at the park.

“I will be seeking the support of my colleagues on the Executive Board for further capital investment in the park, to carry out a range of improvements that we’ve identified as part of our masterplan.”

Mobile catering units should be in place within the next week, and available throughout the summer and October half term week.

There will be signage throughout the park pointing visitors towards the various catering points, and a new park map will be given out at the gate.
