Fourteen beauty spots in Swansea are celebrating prestigious Green Flag or Green Flag Community Award status.
The 2016 winners include Singleton Botanical Gardens, Brynmill Park, Clyne Gardens, Victoria Park and Cwmdonkin Park.
The Green Flag Award is an international mark of a quality park or green space. Delivered in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy, with support from the Welsh Government, it’s judged by green space experts who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against criteria including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
Other Swansea winners this year include Coedbach Park, Parc Llewelyn, Polly’s Park, Coeden Fach Community Tree Nursery, Crwys Community Woodland, Llys Nini, Oystermouth Castle Woods, Penllergare Valley Woods, the St Madoc Centre and Swansea Canal.
Cllr Mark Child, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Healthy City and Wellbeing, said: “It’s important in a city like Swansea to have top quality parks and green spaces because they offer places where people can unwind and relax.
“Winning so many Green Flags and Green Flag Community Awards is a feather in the cap of everyone involved, from the council’s parks service to our many friends’ groups and other volunteers and organisations.
“These beauty spots combine with schemes like our hugely popular wild flowers project to build on Swansea’s reputation for world class scenery.”
Overall, 161 parks and green spaces in Wales won either Green Flags or Green Flag Community Awards this year.
