A dedicated cleaning team is now on hand at the busy beaches of Caswell and Langland until the end of the school summer holidays.
The two Swansea Council members of staff based there are responsible for emptying bins, litter-picking and cleaning facilities including toilets.
They’ll also be visiting other council-run beaches at Swansea Bay, Rotherslade, Limeslade, Horton and Port Eynon as part of their role until the next academic year starts in September.
Their work will complement other mobile teams of staff who will be moving between all council-run beaches to litter-pick every day over coming weeks.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “We’re so lucky to have a selection of world class beaches on our doorstep here in Swansea, but it’s important we do all we can to keep them clean for the benefit of residents and visitors to the city.
“The two members of staff based at our beaches during the school summer holidays will help us keep on top of waste collection and the cleaning of vital facilities like toilets, but we’d also ask for the public’s help in respecting our beauty spots.
“If you’re visiting one of our beaches this summer, then please remember to use the bins that are available or take your rubbish home with you. The cleanliness of our beaches is clearly important because a survey has shown they’re a key factor in attracting visitors from across the world to Swansea Bay, helping sustain a tourism economy that’s now worth more than £400m a year to the local economy.

Swansea Council has also joined forces with Mumbles Community Council to introduce fire-proof, BBQ bins at Langland and Rotherslade until the end of September. The bins will help prevent open fires on beaches which cause damage to the sea. They will also help reduce the risk of accidents associated with disposable barbecues, including burns caused by hot coals buried just under the surface of the sand.
