A series of events and activities is taking place at historic Oystermouth Castle this summer to help keep children entertained.
Guided tours, live music and art workshops set in the grounds of the historic landmark are among the fun things people can enjoy at the Swansea Council attraction.
Taking place every Wednesday in August are craft workshops for children any time from 11.30am to 3.30pm. Suitable for children aged between three and 11, activities will include the chance to make medieval crowns or princess tiaras. And on August 3, 10 and 24, children can enjoy bug hunting and nature ‘spot-it’ activities with the RSPB.
Also being held on Saturday July 30 and Saturday August 6 from 11am to 4.30pm are guided tours of the castle, giving people the chance to discover its hidden history. Set to a backdrop of live classical and folk music from Miss Sali B, the tours will be led by the Friends of Oystermouth Castle at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
Art workshops with local artist Sara Holden are taking place on Saturday August 13 and Saturday August 20 from 11.30am to 3.30pm. These will give children the chance to paint, sketch and create their own keepsake books, taking inspiration from the castle and its historic features.
A Prince and Princesses Day will then be held at the castle on Monday August 29 from 11am to 4.30pm. Storytelling and face-painting will be among the family fun available.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Oystermouth Castle is a terrific venue for family fun events of this kind.
“With its rich history and stunning views, visiting the castle also gives visitors the chance to learn about Swansea’s fascinating heritage at the same time.
“There’s so much going on in Swansea Bay this summer, but no summer would be complete without a trip to Oystermouth Castle, which has recently benefited from a major conservation project in recent years. People can really make a day out in the area too with all the great ice cream parlours, shops and places to eat nearby.”
