Vote for Gower as Wales’ best place

Gower in Swansea is among 10 finalists competing to be named best place in Wales.

The beauty spot has been shortlisted in a competition run by the Royal Town Planning Institute Cymru to celebrate some of the country’s most attractive and inspiring places.

The competition is also recognition for the crucial role planners have played in helping to protect and shape the finalists.

Swansea Council is calling on people to vote for Gower before the deadline of Friday September 30.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Gower is truly one of the most beautiful places on the planet. We’re blessed to have the peninsula on our doorstep because it benefits millions of residents and visitors every year, helping boost the local economy and raise Swansea’s profile both across the UK and further afield.

“But Gower’s beauty and charm wouldn’t have won so many awards and plaudits over the years if it wasn’t for the work of our planning service, who are dedicated to striking a balance between protecting the area and meeting the needs of 21st century tourism and living. Officers as well as members on the planning committee do a superb job, which is reflected in visitors to Swansea Bay often saying Gower is the main reason they plan trips here.

“I’d urge people to vote for Gower because winning the competition would further celebrate its breathtaking beauty while recognising the hard work behind the scenes of our planning service staff.”

Other finalists include Aberaeron, Tenby and Snowdonia. The Hayes in Cardiff, Llandudno Promenade, Merthyr Tydfil town centre and Denbigh also make the top ten.
